Support Needs

Freespirits Day Care prides itself on offering a personalised and passionate service to all the individuals that attend.  We have a dedicated staff team with a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting individuals that require different levels of support.

We support people that have learning disabilities and may require help to enable them to communicate in their own unique way.  We our focused on discovering what that communication is and implement communication tools including pictorial and objects of reference. We understand that how people present is often due to misunderstood communication which can lead to anxiety, especially for people that have autism. Therefore we liaise closely with speech and language professional to support as required to enhance our understanding and therefore deliver a quality service.

We support people that have a range of physical disabilities. We ensure that individual’s receive time out of their wheelchairs as priority including standing frames. We support people to rebound sessions and swimming and liaise closely with physios as required. Our qualified aromatherapist delivers the physio programs in a calming and relaxing atmosphere. Our personal care area of the service has tracking hoist in place with facilities to accommodate all levels of support needs. We have a manual hoist as well so that individuals can come out of their wheelchairs in their area of choice.

We support people that require very high levels of support and need a staff member with them at all times to help them participate and fully engage in activities.  Activities are adapted to meet their individual requirements so that full inclusion is promoted.

We know how important nutrition is and all meals are cooked from fresh on the day by our qualified cook.  All dietary needs can be met and we liaise closely with dieticians and speech and language therapists if needed.  Staff are trained in supporting people at mealtimes that require their food via a PEG.

We support people that have epilepsy and staff are trained in administering rescue medication.

We are focused on people progressing in all areas of their life whilst maintaining a fun and safe atmosphere.  Safety is paramount and is ensured by thorough plans of care and risk assessments so that individuals have consistency in the support they receive.
